Physicians identified a deteriorating post-operative infection during her readmission.

Ford conveyed that on Monday morning, Sonya Eddy was placed on life support as physicians struggled to cure her illness. Sadly, she passed away later that evening. The news of her passing was announced by her close friend Octavia Spencer on Instagram, who shared, “Yesterday evening, her close friend Sonya Eddy passed away. Another creative angel has departed the earth.” At that time, Spencer did not disclose the cause of her death, but it later surfaced that the soap opera actress had faced a post-surgery complication two weeks before her passing.
