INGREDIENTS
- 8 oz. Spaghetti
- 7 oz. Canned Tuna Chunks
- 1/2 cup Basil Pesto
- 1 tbsp. Capers
- 1/4 cup Red Onions, chopped
- 2 tsp. Garlic, minced or chopped
- 1 tbsp. Olive Oil
- 2 tsp. Red Pepper Flakes
- 1 tbsp. Salt
- 1 tsp. Black Pepper
INSTRUCTIONS
- Cook the Pasta: Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Once bubbling, add salt and spaghetti. Cook until al dente, or follow the package instructions for best results.
- Sauté Aromatics: Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Add olive oil, followed by chopped onions and minced garlic. Sauté for about 1 1/2 minutes. Stir in red pepper flakes, black pepper, and capers, cooking for an additional 30 seconds.
- Prepare the Tuna: Lower the heat to low. Add the canned tuna chunks to the skillet and gently break them into smaller pieces with a spoon, adjusting the size to your preference. Stir well to combine.
- Mix the Pasta and Sauce: Add basil pesto, cooked spaghetti, and 1/4 cup of reserved pasta water to the skillet. Mix everything thoroughly. Turn off the heat and let the sauce thicken slightly for about a minute before serving.
- Serve and Enjoy: Plate the pasta and serve immediately.
NOTES
- Pasta Substitutions: Feel free to use other pasta types like angel hair, spirals, or bowtie if you don’t have spaghetti on hand.
- Pasta Water: Save some pasta water to adjust the sauce consistency. Add more if the sauce seems too thick.
- Tuna Choice: Canned tuna chunks are ideal for this recipe. Flaked tuna may release excess oil, making it harder to control the dish’s balance.
