Discover the power of nature’s moisture with homemade shea butter lotion bars! These convenient, portable, and incredibly effective skincare treats are perfect for keeping your skin soft, supple, and hydrated all day long. By creating your own lotion bars, you can customize them to your specific skin needs and avoid harsh chemicals found in many commercial products. This DIY project is simple, fun, and rewarding, allowing you to enjoy the benefits of pure, natural ingredients.
INGREDIENTS
- 2 ounces (1/4 cup) shea butter
- 2 ounces (1/4 cup) beeswax pastilles
- 3 tablespoons coconut oil
- 10 drops essential oils of choice (optional but recommended)
INSTRUCTIONS
- In a double boiler, melt the shea butter and beeswax over medium-low heat. (I used a large glass bowl over a small pot of water. A Pyrex measuring cup inside a pot of water also works well and makes pouring easier.)
- Once the shea butter and beeswax are nearly melted, add the coconut oil, which will melt quickly. Stir to combine, then add essential oils if using.
- Pour the melted mixture into molds (I used 1.5-inch square brownie molds, but any mold will work) and allow it to cool completely until solid, which takes several hours.
- Remove the lotion bars from the molds and store them in a cool, dry place.
Note: Heat may cause the bars to melt, so if needed, you can remelt and re-mold them.
To Use: Rub the lotion bars between your hands to warm them; your body heat will soften the bar, releasing the lotion. You can also apply directly to your lips, just like lip balm!
