BOOZY FRUIT: THE OLDEST PRESERVES (BRANDIED PLUMS)

Seasonal eating is such a delight! It often starts with the longing for a fruit or vegetable you can’t wait to enjoy again. Then, when those first juicy berries or sweet ears of corn appear, the excitement is almost electric. A few days later, as you find yourself with a half case ripening at home, it feels like pure bliss. Before you know it, the full harvest arrives, and you’re left wondering how to use up all those delicious extras. That’s when I stumbled upon the idea of boozy fruit!

Ingredients

  • 3 lbs plums, pitted and sliced into quarters or sixths
  • 2 1/2 cups brandy
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 vanilla beans, halved with seeds scraped out
  • 2 cinnamon sticks

Instructions

  • Combine all the ingredients in a large mixing bowl.
  • Cover the mixture and let it marinate in a dark place for at least 4 weeks.

Notes

Ensure that the fruit remains submerged in the brandy; you may need to weigh it down. Since the alcohol acts as a preservative, any fruit that floats above the surface could spoil or mold. To prevent contamination, use a weight that won’t break down, such as glass or a BPA-free Tattler plastic canning lid. After a couple of weeks, the fruit should have absorbed enough brandy to sink to the bottom, allowing you to remove the weight.

Create this easy cloud slime recipe using instant snow! It’s incredibly simple to make and results in a slime that is SO SOFT and fluffy!

MATERIALS:

  • 1/2 cup Elmer’s white school glue
  • 1/2 teaspoon Baking soda
  • Food colouring (BLUE OR COLOUR OF CHOICE)

  • 1/4 cup Water
  • 1 teaspoon Instant snow

EQUIPMENT:

  • Small bowls
  • Spoon
  • Measuring cups
  • Measuring spoons

INSTRUCTIONS:

Step 1: Find what you need

  • Gather your supplies and materials.

Step 2: Combine the Slime Ingredients

In a bowl, mix together the glue, baking soda, and 2 drops of blue food coloring until well combined.

Stir the mixture until the color is fully blended and evenly distributed.

Add contact lens solution.

Continue stirring until the slime has fully activated, resulting in a thick, gooey consistency. Set it aside.

Step 3: Mix the instant snow

  • Add water to a separate bowl.

Sprinkle on the instant snow and watch it grow, like magic!

Stir the instant snow to ensure the water is fully incorporated. While it mixes well on its own, this step guarantees everything is evenly combined.

Step 4: Combine the two

  • Sprinkle a few spoons of instant snow over the slime.

Gently fold the slime over the instant snow and begin kneading it together with your hands. At this stage, the mixture will still be sticky.

Sprinkle additional instant snow over the slime.

Knead the snow into the slime, incorporating it thoroughly. Add more instant snow as needed until you achieve your desired fluffy texture. We used at least half of the snow we prepared.

Your cloud slime is complete!

HELPFUL TIPS:

  • If your slime feels too sticky, continue kneading it! This recipe requires some work to achieve the perfect texture.
  • The more you play with the slime and the more instant snow you incorporate, the fluffier it will become!

What is instant snow? What is the best brand to make cloud slime?

Instant snow is a powder that expands like magic when mixed with water, but it’s rooted in science! It’s composed of sodium polyacrylate, a superabsorbent and non-toxic polymer.

This incredible material can absorb up to 300 times its own weight in water, which is what causes it to expand so dramatically.

We tested two different brands of instant snow, and while both worked well, we found that SnoWonder produced the fluffiest and softest slime!

How can I make my cloud slime soft again?

As you play with cloud slime, it may thicken and lose some of its stretchiness. To restore its puffiness and softness, simply add more instant snow!

Do I need to add shaving cream to my cloud slime?

While some cloud slime recipes incorporate shaving cream, we found it unnecessary. Shaving cream can add a foamy texture to slime, but this effect typically lasts only a few hours.

Instant snow provides the perfect fluffy texture for this slime without any additional ingredients. However, if you’re interested in a fun slime recipe that includes shaving cream, check out our fluffy slime recipe!
