Perfectly crispy outside with a juicy inside full of flavors this Tofu Fried Chicken will make you addicted to tofu. It is super easy to make and requires only few basic ingredients.
Ingredients
- 400g (14 oz) firm or extra-firm tofu
- Frying oil
- Garlic granules (optional)
Broth for Soaking
- 1.5-2 cups vegetable broth (or vegan chicken broth)
- 1 heaping tbsp chicken-style spices
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
Directions
- Prepare Tofu: Remove the tofu from the freezer and let it thaw (preferably overnight in its packaging). Once thawed and at room temperature, press all the liquid out of the tofu. You can do this by gently pressing it between your hands, using a tofu press, or placing it on paper towels with a heavy object on top.
- Make the Broth: In a bowl, combine the vegetable broth, spices, and soy sauce. Let it cool if it was previously hot.
- Soak the Tofu: Crumble the tofu into bite-sized pieces or dice it, and place the tofu in the prepared broth. Ensure all pieces are submerged and let them soak for at least 30 minutes (overnight for more flavor).
- Fry the Tofu: Strain the tofu from the broth (you can save the broth for another use). Heat oil in a frying pan and fry the tofu, stirring occasionally until all sides are browned and crispy (around 10 minutes).
- Serve: Serve your crispy tofu as a main dish, or use it in wraps, salads, or bowls for a delicious vegan twist on fried chicken!
