WHAT IS A DIPPING SAUCE?

HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL NEED

  • ½ cup mayonnaise
  • ⅓ cup sour cream
  • ¼ cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon prepared horseradish
  • 2 tablespoons Creole mustard
  • 2 tablespoons finely chopped chives
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

Herb and Spice Blend

  • 1 tablespoon sweet paprika
  • ½ teaspoon granulated garlic
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon white pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt

HERE’S WHAT YOU DO

  • Finely chop the chives, squeeze the lemon juice, and measure out the Creole mustard, horseradish, and Worcestershire sauce. In a small prep bowl, combine all the ingredients for the Herb and Spice Blend.
  • In a large glass measuring cup or small bowl, combine the mayonnaise and sour cream.
  • Add the ketchup, Creole mustard, prepared horseradish, lemon juice, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix until all the wet ingredients are well blended.
  • Stir in the chopped chives and the Herb and Spice Blend. Mix vigorously to combine everything thoroughly.
  • This sauce can be used right away, but for best results, refrigerate it for at least an hour or up to overnight.

RECIPE NOTES

  • This recipe makes approximately 1 ½ cups of dipping sauce. A serving size is about 2 tablespoons.
  • You can substitute Dijon or another grainy brown mustard for the Creole mustard.
  • For extra heat, increase the cayenne and white pepper to taste.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for 3 to 4 days. It’s not recommended to freeze this sauce.
