INGREDIENTS

  • 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 egg
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup oatmeal
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the sauce

  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons mustard
  • 1/3 cup ketchup

INSTRUCTIONS

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, egg, chopped onion, milk, oatmeal, salt, and pepper. Mix well using a spoon, or if you prefer, use your hands (after washing them thoroughly).
  • Press the meatloaf mixture firmly into a loaf pan.
  • Flip the formed meatloaf onto a parchment paper-lined baking pan with sides. (To do this, firmly “whack” the bottom of the loaf pan to release the meatloaf.)
  • This method allows the grease to drain off as the meatloaf bakes, preventing it from pooling on top.
  • In a separate bowl, combine the brown sugar, mustard, and ketchup for the sauce. Pour it over the top of the meatloaf.
  • Bake at 350°F for 1 to 1 1/2 hours, or until the meatloaf is fully cooked and no longer pink in the center.
