HOW TO MAKE A PHOTO BOX PICTURE

Inside-the-box photography is a fun and creative challenge that can spark your imagination. In this post, I’ll walk you through everything you need to know, from equipment and preparation to editing tips. Get ready to step outside the ordinary and capture extraordinary shots!

WHAT YOU NEED

  • A box (cardboard box works great)
  • Your Camera
  • Editing software, such as Adobe Photoshop (or Photoshop elements)
  • Willing subjects

HOW TO PREPARE

  • Tape the box flaps back the best that you can
  • Set the box on a chair (this allows for feet and hands to hang over)
  • Have some general ideas of what will happen in some of the boxes

Here are some fun ideas: whisper into the box, lean over to peek inside, knock on it, or just act silly!

Take one picture at a time.

When photographing, ensure there’s plenty of light and that your camera is level with the box—avoid shooting from above or below.

Try to take the pictures in the same location and at the same time to keep the lighting consistent across all shots.

EDITING THE PICTURES

Don’t worry if it takes a bit of time to get the hang of editing. Experiment with it, and you’ll figure it out! Here are the basic steps.

I’m a complete beginner with Photoshop, so if I can do it, you definitely can too!

FINAL THOUGHTS

Give it a try! Don’t be too hard on yourself—just have fun with it!
