This simple Brazilian sardine pie is easy to prepare and packed with a rich, savory flavor that’s sure to win your heart!
INGREDIENTS
Dough
- 1 1/2 cups (375 ml) milk
- 3 eggs
- 1/2 cup (125 ml) sunflower oil
- 2 cups (300 g) all-purpose flour, sifted
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- Salt to taste
Filling
- 2 cans (250 g) sardines in oil, about 8 oz
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 onion, chopped
- 2 medium tomatoes, seeded and diced
- 1 cup (250 ml) tomato sauce
- 1/2 cup (90 g) sweet corn
- 1/2 cup (75 g) frozen peas
- A pinch of oregano, coriander, and parsley
- Salt and chopped olives to taste, about 15 olives
INSTRUCTIONS
- Preheat the oven to 365°F (180°C) and grease a pie pan. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, combine all the filling ingredients and mix well with a spoon. Set aside.
- In another bowl, use a hand mixer to blend the dough ingredients until smooth, then pour the mixture into the greased pie pan.
- Pour the filling over the dough and bake for 35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.
- Let cool, then serve cold and enjoy!
