As children create their own monkey, they’ll practice important skills like cutting with scissors and applying glue. Plus, this project is a fun way to develop fine motor coordination and the ability to follow instructions, all while transforming recycled materials into a cute craft.
SUPPLIES
- Colored cardstock or construction paper
- Scissors
- Glue
- Tape
- Crayons or markers (for the color-in version)
- Glue dots (optional)
- Monkey template (download the template by entering your email at the end of the post)
DIRECTIONS
- Download the template, print it out, and cut the necessary pieces.
- Start by gluing the belly onto the middle and lower part of the monkey’s body.
- Position the arms on each side of the belly, with the hands facing inward, and glue them in place.
- Use a piece of tape to attach one end of the body to the toilet paper roll. Wrap the body around the tube and secure the other end with a second piece of tape.
- For the head, glue the face onto the center of the head.
- Attach the eyes just below the eyebrows with glue.
- Apply glue or a glue dot to the bottom and middle of the head, then attach it to the top of the toilet paper roll.
- Now, glue the feet to the front and bottom of the monkey’s body.
- Lastly, fold the straight end of the tail backward, apply glue to the folded part, and attach it to the back and side of the monkey’s body.
