There are plenty of ready-made cold brew concentrates available, but buying them regularly can add up over time. If you want to save money, making your own cold brew concentrate at home is easy, budget-friendly, and requires no special equipment. Let me show you how!
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
- 1 cup coarse ground coffee
- 2 cups water
- A large container (mason jar, bowl, pitcher, or French press, holding at least 4 cups)
- A strainer (coffee filter, fine mesh sieve with cheesecloth, or a nylon coffee sock)

INSTRUCTIONS
- Add 1 cup of coarse ground coffee to your container.
- Pour in 1 cup of water and stir to saturate the grounds.
- Add the remaining cup of water, then cover with a lid.
- Refrigerate and steep for 12 to 24 hours (16 to 20 hours is ideal).
- Once steeping is complete, strain using your preferred filter method.
- To serve, mix one part concentrate with ½ part water, adjusting to taste.
NOTES
- This recipe yields about 1.5 cups of concentrate, as some water is absorbed by the grounds.
- You’ll get approximately two 8-10 oz servings of cold brew coffee.
