BRAZILIAN SARDINE PATE: TASTY & EASY SPREAD FOR ANY OCCASION

Got some canned fish in your pantry and not sure what to do with it? Try this delicious sardine pâté straight from my mom’s recipe book!

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 can (3.5 oz / 100g) oil-packed sardines, drained
  • 10 olives, chopped
  • ½ onion, chopped
  • Chives and coriander, minced (to taste)
  • 3 tbsp fresh lime juice (about one lime)
  • ½ cup (115g) mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • Salt and freshly ground pepper, to taste

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Remove the sardines from the can. If desired, split them open with a small knife, remove the backbone, and discard any tails. You can also leave them whole if you prefer.
  • Transfer the sardines to a bowl and mash them with a fork until smooth.
  • Add the chopped onion, olives, chives, and coriander. Mix well.
  • Stir in the lime juice, mayo, and olive oil, mixing until creamy and well combined.
  • Season with salt and pepper to taste, then give it a final stir.
  • Transfer the pâté to a serving dish, cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate for about an hour.
  • Serve chilled on toast or as a sandwich spread—absolutely delicious!

Enjoy!
