COOKING WITH KIDS

Here’s a fun, easy recipe your toddler or kid can help make from start to finish! The only challenging part is waiting for the yogurt to freeze.

Ways they can join in:

  • Measure 1/2 cup of yogurt into three separate bowls.
  • Add a few drops of plant-based food coloring to each bowl.
  • Stir the food coloring into each bowl of yogurt until blended.
  • Drop spoonfuls of yogurt into a baking dish in any pattern they like.
  • Use a spoon to swirl the colors together.
  • Sprinkle on some fun toppings.
  • Place the dish in the freezer to set.

NOTES

  • Age: Suitable for ages 1 and up.
  • Yogurt: I used vanilla Greek yogurt for added protein, but any yogurt will work! Plain yogurt sweetened with 3–4 tablespoons of honey, maple syrup, or agave nectar is a great alternative. Honey and vanilla-flavored yogurt also work well.
  • Dairy-Free: To make this recipe dairy-free, feel free to use any soy, nut, or plant-based yogurt you like.
  • Food Dye: I used a plant-based food dye, but any food coloring will do.
  • No Food Dye Option: For a natural color alternative, blend the yogurt with frozen berries. Add 1/3 cup of frozen fruit (like strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, or raspberries) to 1/2 cup of yogurt and blend until smooth.
  • Sprinkles: We used plant-based sprinkle dyes, but any sprinkles or toppings you have on hand will work just fine.
  • Storage: Keeps well in the freezer for up to 2 months.
