Skip the canned cranberry sauce this year and make your own homemade version instead! This easy recipe requires just a few simple ingredients and minimal effort, resulting in a vibrant and flavorful sauce that’s perfect for any holiday gathering.
Ingredients
- 12 ounces fresh cranberries
- 2 large oranges
- 1 cup pure maple syrup
Instructions
- Rinse the cranberries under cold water.
- Zest both oranges, then juice them, and set the zest and juice aside.
- In a medium saucepan, combine the cranberries, orange zest, and orange juice. Add the maple syrup and stir to combine.
- Bring the mixture to a gentle boil over medium heat, then lower the heat and simmer for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens. If it’s still too thin, continue to simmer until it reaches your desired consistency.
- Once ready, transfer the sauce to a dish and cover it with plastic wrap. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or up to 2 days ahead of time.
- To store, keep it in the fridge. If you’re making it ahead, feel free to freeze it and defrost it in the fridge the day before Thanksgiving.
