This brown sugar glaze is the ideal finishing touch for a fork-tender, homestyle meatloaf. It’s incredibly easy to prepare and makes for the perfect comfort food.
INGREDIENTS
For the Meatloaf:
- 1 1/2 pounds ground chuck
- 2 large eggs, slightly beaten
- 1/3 cup milk
- 1 medium onion, diced small
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon pepper
- 2/3 cup finely crushed saltine crackers or store-bought bread crumbs
For the Glaze:
- 1 1/2 cups ketchup
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/8 teaspoon pepper
- 3/4 cup light or dark brown sugar, packed
INSTRUCTIONS
- Preheat the oven to 350°F.
- For the Meatloaf:
Spray an oblong baking dish (such as an 8×11-inch dish) with non-stick cooking spray.
In a large bowl, mix all ingredients together (using your hands works best). Be careful not to overmix, as this can make the meatloaf tough when baked.
Shape the mixture into a loaf and place it in the prepared baking dish. Set aside. - For the Glaze:
In a small pan, combine the ketchup, pepper, and brown sugar. Stir and heat over medium heat until the sugar has dissolved.
Brush about half of the glaze over the top of the meatloaf. Reserve the remaining glaze for later use. - Place the meatloaf on the middle oven rack and bake for about one hour or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F on a meat thermometer. Allow the meatloaf to rest for 10 minutes before slicing.
- Brush with additional glaze, if desired, or serve the remaining glaze on the side.
- Refrigerate leftovers.
