This Pears, Prunes + Cloves Baby Food recipe is a delicious puree that can help relieve baby constipation! It’s a simple blend of fresh pears, prunes, and a hint of cloves, perfect for babies 6 months and older.
INGREDIENTS
- 3 medium pears, cored and chopped
- 4 dried prunes, pitted
- 1 cup hot water
- Pinch of ground cloves (roughly 1/8 tsp)
INSTRUCTIONS
- Prep the Pears: Core and chop the pears.
- Steam the Pears: In a medium saucepan, add 2 inches of water and bring to a boil over medium heat. Place the pears in a steamer basket over the boiling water. Cover and cook for 10 minutes or until tender. Let the pears cool slightly. Reserve the steamer water.
- Soak the Prunes: In a small bowl, add the prunes to the hot water and let them soak for 10 minutes. Drain the prunes.
- Blend the Ingredients: Add the steamed pears, prunes, and cloves to a blender or food processor.
- Puree: Start blending on low speed, then gradually increase to high speed for 1-2 minutes, or until completely smooth. If needed, add the reserved steamer water in 1/4 cup increments to reach your desired consistency.
- Serve or Store: Serve immediately to your baby or store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days. You can also freeze it for up to 4 months.
NOTES
- Age: Suitable for babies 6 months and older
- Yield: Approximately 12 ounces
- Serving Recommendations: Start with 1-2 ounces a day if your baby is experiencing constipation, and gradually increase to 3-6 ounces per serving as needed. It’s best to serve this during the day to give your baby time to digest.
- Other Spices: Feel free to substitute the cloves with cinnamon, nutmeg, or freshly minced ginger (1/8 tsp).
