This Apple Crisp is the ultimate fall treat! Sliced apples are covered with a rich, buttery cinnamon oat topping that’s absolutely perfect when paired with a scoop of creamy vanilla ice cream!
INGREDIENTS
For the Filling:
- 5 cups fresh apples, sliced
- 1/2 cup granulated white sugar
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
For the Topping:
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/3 cup old-fashioned oats
- 2/3 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 cup (1/2 stick) butter, melted
INSTRUCTIONS
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a deep-dish pie plate or a large baking dish with butter or cooking spray and set aside.
- In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples with the sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla extract. Stir until the apples are evenly coated. Transfer the mixture into your prepared baking dish.
- In a medium bowl, mix together the flour, oats, brown sugar, salt, and cinnamon. Add the melted butter and stir until the mixture is crumbly and well combined. Sprinkle the topping evenly over the apples.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 45-60 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the topping is golden brown. Allow the crisp to cool slightly before serving.
- Serve warm with a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. Enjoy!
NOTES
- Slice your apples evenly: For consistent baking, slice your apples to about 1/2 inch thick. Using an apple slicer can make the process faster and help remove the core easily. You can also cut them into large chunks if preferred, just ensure they’re uniform in size.
- Prevent over-browning: If the topping starts to brown too much before the apples are fully cooked, cover the dish loosely with aluminum foil and continue baking.
- Optional additions: For extra texture, add chopped nuts like pecans or walnuts to the topping. (I didn’t add nuts to ours because of a nut allergy.)
- Serving suggestion: This apple crisp is incredible with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, but it’s also delicious with whipped cream and a drizzle of caramel sauce.
