Hello, tea lovers! Have you ever tried a London Fog? If you enjoy adding sugar and milk to your tea, this delightful tea latte is perfect for you. Its unique flavor combination of vanilla and bergamot makes it a standout choice!
Although I usually enjoy my tea plain, I occasionally indulge in a more luxurious tea break with a bit of sugar and milk, especially when it comes to black tea. That’s when a friend introduced me to London Fog a few years ago, and it completely changed my tea experience. It opened up a whole new world of flavor and enjoyment!
WHAT IS A LONDON FOG?
A London Fog is an Earl Grey tea latte infused with vanilla syrup and typically made with steamed milk, topped with a light layer of froth, much like a traditional coffee latte.
While the exact origins are unclear, it’s believed that London Fog was first created in Vancouver in 1996. The drink was developed as a coffee alternative for a pregnant customer who had stopped drinking coffee during her pregnancy (source).
Interestingly, in Scotland, this drink is known as a Vancouver Fog. Over the years, other cities have inspired variations of the tea latte, each with its own unique twist. For instance, there’s the Tokyo Fog, made with Matcha green tea, and the Cape Town Fog, featuring Rooibos.
INGREDIENTS
- 1 tsp loose leaf Earl Grey tea or 1 teabag
- 250 ml boiling hot water
- 120 ml whole milk
- 2 tbsp vanilla syrup

INSTRUCTIONS
- Steep the tea in a cup of boiling water for 3-4 minutes until it’s nice and strong. Remove the teabag or infuser.
- Add 2 pumps of vanilla syrup and stir to dissolve.
- Steam the milk and pour it gently over a spoon into the tea to create layers. Serve immediately.
NOTES
- If using a larger or smaller mug, maintain a ratio of 2 parts tea to 1 part milk, and use 2 pumps of vanilla syrup per teabag.
