Tiramisu, the classic Italian dessert, is renowned for its irresistible combination of creamy mascarpone, coffee-soaked ladyfingers, and a dusting of cocoa powder. While the traditional version is typically served in a large baking dish, individual tiramisu offers a delightful alternative. These bite-sized or single-serving treats are perfect for parties, special occasions, or simply satisfying a craving for this decadent dessert.
Serves: 6
Ingredients:
- 15 Ladyfingers (use this recipe!)
- 1 Cup Espresso
- 4 Egg Yolks
- ½ Cup Sugar
- 1 Cup + 2 tablespoons Heavy Whipping Cream
- 1 Cup (8 oz.) Mascarpone (make your own here)
- Cocoa Powder (for dusting)
Instructions:
- Arrange the ladyfingers in a 9×13 baking dish. Pour the espresso evenly over them, allowing them to soak while you prepare the mascarpone filling.
- In a small saucepan, combine the egg yolks, sugar, and 2 tablespoons of heavy cream. Whisk them together well. Cook over medium heat, whisking constantly, until the sugar dissolves and the custard thickens enough to coat the back of a spoon. Remove from heat, transfer to a large bowl, and allow it to cool completely.
- In a separate bowl, whip the remaining heavy cream to stiff peaks, then set aside.
- Add the mascarpone to the cooled custard and whisk until smooth. Gently fold in the whipped cream until fully combined. Transfer the mixture to a piping bag fitted with a large round tip.
To Assemble:
- Prepare 6 small serving dishes or ramekins. Cut the ladyfingers in half to fit and place one piece in the bottom of each dish. Pipe a layer of mascarpone filling over the ladyfingers. Repeat layering with more espresso-soaked ladyfingers and filling, ending with a layer of filling on top. Use a knife to smooth the top of each dish.
- Dust the tops with cocoa powder and refrigerate for several hours or overnight. Enjoy!
