BRAZILIAN SARDINE PIE

This simple Brazilian sardine pie is easy to prepare and packed with a rich, savory flavor that’s sure to win your heart!

INGREDIENTS

Dough

  • 1 1/2 cups (375 ml) milk
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 cup (125 ml) sunflower oil
  • 2 cups (300 g) all-purpose flour, sifted
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • Salt to taste

Filling

  • 2 cans (250 g) sardines in oil, about 8 oz
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 onion, chopped
  • 2 medium tomatoes, seeded and diced
  • 1 cup (250 ml) tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup (90 g) sweet corn
  • 1/2 cup (75 g) frozen peas
  • A pinch of oregano, coriander, and parsley
  • Salt and chopped olives to taste, about 15 olives

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Preheat the oven to 365°F (180°C) and grease a pie pan. Set aside.
  • In a large bowl, combine all the filling ingredients and mix well with a spoon. Set aside.
  • In another bowl, use a hand mixer to blend the dough ingredients until smooth, then pour the mixture into the greased pie pan.
  • Pour the filling over the dough and bake for 35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.
  • Let cool, then serve cold and enjoy!
