Welcome to my ‘Unfolding Spring’ Illusion Makeup Tutorial!
Every year, as tulips, crocuses, and fruit trees awaken from their long slumber, I feel that same sense of wonder. You’d think I’d be used to it by now, but the delicate beauty of these blooms never fails to touch me. Spring really is a stunning celebration of life, don’t you think?
On that note, during these strange times, please stay home, stay safe, and follow the health guidelines!
This week, I wanted to create another optical illusion makeup look to celebrate the arrival of spring—and here’s the result! The illusion element is inspired by the amazing Mimi Choi, a true master of illusion art.

Here’s my regular progress update!
The most challenging part of this makeup was definitely shaping the ribbon (step 5 in the picture above). Getting it to fit my face was tricky, and I also had to make sure it looked believable with the three-dimensional movement—if that makes sense, lol. But aside from that, it was mostly a lot of shading and highlighting!
