Ingredients:

  • 6 oz tomato paste
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp oregano
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder

Instructions:

  • Combine all ingredients in a medium saucepan and bring to a boil over medium-high heat.
  • Once boiling, reduce heat to medium-low and simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Pour over your cooked pasta and top with Parmesan cheese, if desired.

    NOTES

    • For a meaty sauce, add 1 pound of lean ground beef, turkey, or sausage. Cook the meat in a skillet first, drain excess grease, and then add the remaining ingredients. Cook as directed.
    • Customize the sauce by adding any of the following: red pepper flakes, fresh tomatoes or canned diced tomatoes, crushed tomatoes, olive oil, fresh or dried basil, grated Parmesan, minced garlic, or fresh chopped onions.
    • If you prefer a sweeter sauce, add sugar or another sweetener 1 teaspoon at a time.
    • Store leftover sauce in an airtight container or glass jar in the fridge for up to 4-5 days.
    • For extra flavor, add homemade marinara sauce or a splash of red wine!
