This quick and easy recipe is a must-have for anyone, but for a Southern lady, it’s practically a rite of passage. Using just a handful of ingredients and under 10 minutes of prep, you can have mile-high Southern biscuits baking to perfection in your own oven.
INGREDIENTS
- 2 cups all-purpose flour, plus extra for dusting
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon fine sea salt
- 6 tablespoons cold unsalted butter, cut into small cubes
- ¾ cup whole milk
INSTRUCTIONS
- Preheat your oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
- Add the cubed butter to the dry mixture. Using a pastry blender, cut the butter into the flour until it resembles small pea-sized pieces.
- Pour in the milk and stir gently with a wooden spoon until the dough begins to come together. If needed, lightly knead the dough with your hands to ensure it holds together.
- Transfer the dough to a floured surface and pat it out to a thickness of 1 inch. Cut the dough into 2-inch squares or use a biscuit cutter to form round biscuits. Re-roll the scraps up to two times to make additional biscuits.
- Place the biscuits on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 15-18 minutes, or until golden brown. Serve warm and enjoy!
NOTES
- Yields 12 biscuits.
