Here’s a simple and healthy recipe for homemade chocolate milk using unsweetened cocoa powder and honey—no chocolate syrup or refined sugar required! It’s quick, easy, and perfect for a sweet treat.
INGREDIENTS
For a Single Serving:
- 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
- 1 ½ tablespoons honey
- 1 ½ cups milk (divided)
For a ½ Gallon:
- ⅔ cup cocoa powder
- ½ cup honey
- 7 cups milk (divided)
INSTRUCTIONS
For a Single Serving:
- In a microwave-safe cup, combine cocoa powder, honey, and ¼ cup of milk. Microwave for 30 seconds, then stir until smooth.
- Gradually add the remaining milk, stirring a little at a time to prevent clumps.
- Chill in the fridge for at least 15 minutes before drinking.
For a ½ Gallon:
- In a medium saucepan, mix cocoa powder, honey, and 1 cup of milk. Heat over low heat, stirring constantly until the cocoa powder dissolves and the mixture is smooth.
- Remove from heat and gradually stir in the remaining milk, a little at a time, to avoid clumps.
- Refrigerate for at least 15 minutes before serving.
NOTES
To Serve: After chilling, give the chocolate milk a good shake or stir to re-mix the cocoa. Let it sit for a few minutes to allow any bubbles to settle.
To Store: Store in a sealed jar so you can shake it before serving. It will last until the “best by” date on the milk you used.
Variations: To make chocolate milk with powdered sugar, blend 1 tablespoon of powdered sugar and 1 tablespoon of cocoa powder with 1 ½ cups of milk until smooth.
Substitutions: You can use any milk (whole, 2%, skim, nut milk, or coconut milk) instead of whole milk. Maple syrup can replace honey.
