INGREDIENTS
- 1 stick salted butter
- 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 4 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 2 teaspoons granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 8 ounces sharp cheddar, cubed
- 2 cups diced ham
- 1/4 cup diced chives
- 2 cups buttermilk
INSTRUCTIONS
- Preheat the oven to 450°F.
- Place the butter in a 10-inch cast iron skillet or a deep 9×9 pan. Put it in the oven for 5 minutes while it preheats, until the butter is fully melted.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the dry ingredients. Stir in the ham, cheese, and chives. Add the buttermilk and mix until just combined, being careful not to overwork the dough.
- Spread the dough over the melted butter. Using a pastry cutter or knife, slice the dough into 8-10 biscuit portions.
- Bake at 450°F for 20-30 minutes, until the tops are golden and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Let the biscuits rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing and serving.
