“GET CAUGHT READING” LIBRARY BULLETIN BOARD IDEAS

Ah, the joy of getting lost in a good book! As a reader, you can journey to new worlds and embark on thrilling adventures—all without leaving your home. Books have the power to transport you! Make sure you and your students always have one handy, because May is Get Caught Reading Month!

First established in 1999, Get Caught Reading Month is a nationwide public service campaign launched by the Association of American Publishers to remind people of all ages just how fun and rewarding reading can be. Over the years, it has been embraced by organizations, authors, teachers, librarians, celebrities, and children alike. So, encourage your library patrons to dive into a great book this May and celebrate the magic of reading!

MATCH THE SELFIE TO THE SHELFIE

Turn your bulletin board into an exciting guessing game! Snap photos of participating teachers alongside their classroom bookshelves. Then, challenge students to match each teacher with their shelf! Provide a folder with answer forms so students can submit their guesses. Offer prizes to those who guess correctly for an extra dose of fun!

CAUGHT READING MUGSHOT DISPLAY & PHOTO BOOTH

If you created a mugshot display for Banned Books Week, repurpose it for Get Caught Reading Month! Set up a bulletin board featuring photos of library visitors “caught in the act” of reading their favorite books. This is a great interactive activity for schools and public libraries alike.

Bonus Tip: Use a Polaroid camera or print out new photos each week to add to the display!

POKÉMON-THEMED LIBRARY BULLETIN BOARD

Encourage young readers with a touch of fandom! Create a Pokémon-inspired display featuring Poké Balls filled with book recommendations. If students are unsure what to read next, they can pick a Poké Ball for a surprise suggestion. It’s a fun and interactive way to spark curiosity and excitement for books!
