This Air Fryer Mushrooms and Onions recipe uses only 5 ingredients and takes just 5 minutes to prep, making it the perfect side dish for steak, pork, or chicken, or a tasty topping for burgers and pizza!
INGREDIENTS
- 1/2 pound cremini mushrooms, halved (or quartered if large)
- 1 large yellow onion, sliced lengthwise into 1/2-inch pieces
- 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
INSTRUCTIONS
- In a large bowl, toss the mushrooms and onions with olive oil, salt, and pepper.
- Transfer the mixture to the air fryer basket and cook at 400°F for 15-17 minutes, stirring halfway through.
- Serve immediately, and store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge.
NOTES
- I typically halve the mushrooms instead of slicing them thinly since they shrink during cooking. If your mushrooms are large, consider quartering them.
- The onions are cut into 1/2-inch slices to soften without becoming mushy. For softer onions, try cutting them into smaller pieces.
- Around the 15-minute mark, the onions will become soft, translucent, and slightly caramelized. For extra caramelization, air fry for a few more minutes, but be cautious not to overcook them, as they can dry out and burn.
- I used a Philips 2.75-quart air fryer for this recipe. If you’re using a different brand or model, you may need to adjust the temperature or cooking time slightly.
