HUMMINGBIRD FOOD

Hummingbirds, with their vibrant colors and rapid wingbeats, are a delightful sight in any garden. To attract these fascinating creatures, providing the right food is key. Hummingbirds primarily feed on nectar, a sugary liquid produced by flowers. While they can also consume insects for protein, nectar is their primary energy source.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups filtered water
  • 1 cup regular white sugar (organic if possible)

Directions

  • Bring the water to a boil.
  • Remove the water from heat and stir in the sugar until completely dissolved.
  • Allow the nectar to cool.
  • Once cooled, pour the nectar into a clean hummingbird feeder and hang it outside for the birds to enjoy.

Note

  • Replace the nectar every 3-5 days to ensure it’s fresh.
  • Avoid using food coloring.
  • Check the feeder regularly for any signs of gray mold or ants. If you notice either, discard the nectar and clean the feeder thoroughly.
  • To clean the feeder, rinse it with warm water, then add a few drops of bleach and scrub with a bottle brush.
  • Rinse well with fresh water, let it dry, and refill with new nectar. The birds will appreciate it!
