She recalls the moment she first encountered body art—a tattoo on Angelina Jolie’s arm in a magazine—that drew her into the world of tattooing. Her passion grew further after learning the art’s intricacies from a mentor, and by 2004, she decided to devote her life to this craft.
Chen Jie boldly embraced the challenge of the new watercolor style
After mastering the technical aspects of tattooing, she noticed that no one in China was specializing in watercolor-style tattoos. Painting on skin turned out to be quite similar to painting on paper
When Chen Jie did her first tattoo, she was very nervous. Luckily, she had many kind and supportive friends who were eager to get tattooed. Discussing her style, Chen Jie explains that creating watercolor effects on the body is much like doing so on paper. Just as you dilute ink on paper to achieve lighter shades, the same technique applies to skin.
