I found a hutch at one of my favorite thrift stores, and the intricate detail on the drawers immediately caught my eye—I’m a sucker for ornate furniture! I could see its potential to be truly stunning with a bit of love, so I decided to bring it home and start the makeover process.
I absolutely loved the hardware, so I decided it only needed a good polish. For the rest of the piece, I chose a rich green chalk paint and planned to add a stenciled pattern to the back for a unique touch!
I used Brasso and some steel wool to polish up the brass hardware, and the difference was incredible! I knew the refreshed brass would add just the right touch against the green paint on the hutch.
The back of the hutch was just stapled on, so I removed it to make things easier. This way, I could paint the inside of the hutch more smoothly and apply the stencil without any hassle. I painted the entire back in white chalk paint and found a beautiful stencil at Hobby Lobby that was perfect for the look I envisioned.
And here it is—the entire back, fully stenciled! Doesn’t it look just like wallpaper? But it’s actually painted! Ha!
What a difference! Love it so much now.
