EASY 3-INGREDIENT BISCUITS WITH SELF-RISING FLOUR

These simple 3-ingredient biscuits are made with just self-rising flour, buttermilk, and butter. With minimal mixing, they bake up tender, flaky, and perfectly fluffy. Enjoy them for breakfast, brunch, or dinner—quick, easy, and full of buttery goodness.

EQUIPMENT

  • Baking Sheet
  • Mixing Bowls
  • Pastry Blender

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 cups self-rising flour (plus extra for kneading)
  • 6 tablespoons cold, diced salted butter
  • ¾ to 1 cup cold buttermilk
  • 2 tablespoons salted butter (divided)

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Preheat the oven to 425°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
  • In a large bowl, combine the flour and diced cold butter. Use a pastry cutter or two forks to cut the butter into the flour until the mixture forms pea-sized lumps. Alternatively, you can use grated frozen butter to keep it colder longer.
  • Add ½ cup of buttermilk and mix until a soft dough forms. Use a spatula or your hands to combine. If necessary, add ¼ to ½ cup more buttermilk until the dough comes together.
  • Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface. Knead gently until the dough holds together, adding more flour as needed to prevent sticking. Pat the dough to about ¾-inch thickness.
  • Using a 2-inch round biscuit cutter, cut out 10 biscuits. Place them on the prepared baking sheet and refrigerate for about 10 minutes to allow the butter to firm up.
  • Brush the biscuits with 1 tablespoon of melted butter. Bake in the preheated oven for 13-15 minutes, or until golden brown and risen.
  • After baking, brush the biscuits with the remaining tablespoon of melted butter. Make sure to melt this butter separately from the raw dough butter.

NOTES: Store any leftover biscuits in an airtight container. They’ll stay fresh at room temperature for 1-2 days or in the refrigerator for up to a week.
