INGREDIENTS

  • For the Garlic Butter:
    • ½ cup unsalted butter, very soft
    • 1 tablespoon grated Parmesan cheese
    • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
    • ½ teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
  • For Assembly:
    • 8 slices of white bread
    • 12 slices of mozzarella cheese
    • 6 ounces of pepperoni
    • Warm pizza sauce for dipping

INSTRUCTIONS

  • In a medium bowl, combine the softened butter, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning. Mix until smooth and well combined.
  • Spread the garlic butter mixture evenly over one side of each slice of bread. Arrange the slices butter side up on a sheet tray until ready to use.
  • Heat a skillet over medium-low heat. Place a slice of bread butter side down in the skillet. Layer a slice of mozzarella cheese on top, followed by 6 pepperoni slices. Add another slice of mozzarella, then another 6 pepperoni, and top with a final slice of mozzarella.
  • Place the second slice of bread on top, butter side up. You may have some leftover pepperoni.
  • Cover the skillet with a lid to help melt the cheese. Cook until the bottom slice of bread is golden brown, about 3-5 minutes. Carefully flip the sandwich using a spatula, cover again, and cook the other side until golden brown and the cheese is melted.
  • Repeat the process with the remaining sandwiches.
  • Serve immediately with warm pizza sauce for dipping. Enjoy!

NOTES

  • Batch Cooking: To avoid overcrowding the pan, it’s best to cook these sandwiches in batches.
  • Crispy Finish: To keep the sandwiches crispy, place them on a wire rack set over a sheet tray to prevent steam from making the bottoms soggy.
  • Customization: Feel free to add other ingredients for an epic sandwich experience—see suggestions above.
  • Easily Doubled: This recipe can easily be doubled to serve more.
  • Bread Options: You can swap out the bread for your preferred type—see above for some substitutions.
  • Cheese Variations: While mozzarella keeps with the pizza theme, other cheeses like provolone or Parmesan can be used as well.
  • Freezing: These sandwiches can be frozen—refer to above instructions for details.
