Start by folding your card in half and drawing a heart shape in the center. Then, cut out the heart. I used a large cookie cutter for this. We also repurposed the heart cookie cutter to create bird feeders!
Open a laminating pouch and fill it with colorful paper—tissue paper or colored cellophane works great if you want a suncatcher effect. Once it’s full, laminate the pouch.
I like to place the warm pouch under a heavy book to help it cool flat without any kinks. If you don’t have a laminator, you can create a cute collage for your heart instead.
We use the laminator for various crafts, including Elmer, rainbows, recycled lid heart suncatchers, baubles, pumpkins, and Easter crosses. Alternatively, you can use sticky back plastic, like we did in our leaf plate and autumn tree crafts. You can find sticky back plastic on Amazon (UK / US).
No matter which method you choose, the possibilities are endless!
Next, I cut out a larger heart shape to place inside the card, ensuring it completely covered the cut-out heart on the front. I then used a single hole punch to create a hole at the top and threaded through some beautiful red ribbon.
You can decide how to attach the heart inside the card. You can glue around the edges for a secure, complete attachment, or you can use a bit of tape on the inside so it can be easily removed later and hung up as a suncatcher in the window.
We used sellotape to secure the heart inside the card. Hearts are perfect for any occasion throughout the year!
With the leftover laminated collage, we used smaller cookie cutters to cut out even more hearts!
We’ve loved making suncatchers throughout the year! I must say, our heart suncatchers are my favorite. I appreciate that they can be displayed in the window year-round and are perfect for any occasion!
