Skip the takeout and make this Healthy Orange Chicken Recipe at home! Paleo, gluten-free, and absolutely delicious, it’s one of the best healthy chicken dishes. With just a few simple ingredients, it’s both flavorful and easy to prepare!
Ingredients:
- 2 lbs boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 4 cups steamed broccoli or green beans
- 2 tablespoons toasted sesame oil
Sauce:
- 2 cups orange juice
- 1/4 cup chicken broth (optional, no salt added)
- 1/4 cup coconut aminos
- 3 tablespoons honey
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 2 teaspoons fresh ginger (grated)
- 1/2 tablespoon orange zest
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper
Instructions:
- Prep the Chicken: Cut the chicken into 1-inch cubes.
- Cook the Chicken: Heat sesame oil in a large frying pan over medium-high heat. Add the chicken and cook for 12-15 minutes, until the edges are brown and crispy.
- Make the Sauce: In a separate bowl, combine the orange juice, chicken broth (if using), coconut aminos, honey, garlic powder, grated ginger, orange zest, and pepper.
- Simmer the Sauce: Once the chicken is fully cooked, remove it from the pan and set aside. Pour the sauce into the same pan. Bring it to a boil and let it simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens. You’ll know it’s ready when the sauce pulls away from the pan as you scrape it.
- Coat the Chicken: Add the cooked chicken back into the pan and stir to coat it evenly with the sauce.
- Serve: Serve the orange chicken over steamed broccoli or green beans for a paleo option, or over rice or quinoa. Garnish with sesame seeds and enjoy!
