This Keto Philly Cheesesteak Beef Skillet combines the flavors of a classic Philly cheesesteak with the comforting texture of a Sloppy Joe. It’s a quick, budget-friendly meal that’s ready in under 30 minutes—perfect for family dinners! Made with ground beef instead of pricier steak, it’s a satisfying, low-carb option that can be enjoyed on its own or served over zucchini noodles or low-carb bread.
INGREDIENTS
- 1 lb ground beef
- 2 Tbsp butter, divided
- 2 Tbsp heavy cream
- 1 Tbsp low-carb tomato sauce
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 Tbsp fresh basil, chopped
- 1 green bell pepper, sliced
- 1/2 white onion, sliced
- 6 slices provolone cheese
- Salt and pepper, to taste
INSTRUCTIONS
- Season the ground beef with salt and pepper, then cook in a skillet over medium heat until browned. Once fully cooked, transfer the beef to a plate and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add 1 tablespoon of butter to the beef drippings, then add the sliced onion and green pepper. Sauté until browned, about 4 minutes. Remove and set aside with the cooked ground beef.
- Preheat your oven to broil. In the skillet, add the remaining butter, minced garlic, and basil. Sauté for about 1 minute, then stir in the tomato sauce, heavy cream, and garlic powder. Let the mixture simmer for 1–2 minutes.
- Return the ground beef to the skillet, stirring to coat it in the sauce. Add the peppers and onions, mixing until well combined.
- Arrange the provolone slices over the beef mixture and place the skillet under the broiler for 3–4 minutes, or until the cheese is melted to your liking.
NOTES
- Mozzarella cheese, shredded or sliced, can be used in place of provolone if preferred.
- If you don’t have an oven-safe skillet, transfer the mixture to a baking dish for broiling.
- Ground beef can be swapped with sliced roast beef or cooked steak if desired.
