Making mashed potatoes with canned potatoes is a breeze—it takes less than 10 minutes to whip up this creamy side dish. These canned mashed potatoes are a perfect, quick addition to a simple supper on those busy evenings when you need something comforting with minimal effort.
INGREDIENTS
- 4 (15 oz) cans whole potatoes, drained
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- Salt & pepper, to taste
- 2 tbsp butter, sliced
INSTRUCTIONS
- Add the drained potatoes to a medium-sized pot. Pour in the milk.
- Bring the mixture to a boil, then immediately reduce the heat to a simmer. Continue cooking for 2-3 minutes, stirring often.
- Remove the pot from heat.
- Use a sturdy potato masher to mash the potatoes in the pot until mostly smooth.
- Add the garlic powder and season with salt & pepper to taste. Stir well to incorporate.
- Transfer the mashed potatoes to a serving bowl and top with sliced pats of butter.
- Spoon onto plates and enjoy!
NOTES
- No whole milk? You can substitute half & half if needed.
- For thicker mashed potatoes, use less milk.
- For even creamier potatoes, add a spoonful of whipped cream cheese or sour cream and stir in.
- If you prefer smoother potatoes, you can use an immersion blender instead of a potato masher.
- For a special touch, top with extra freshly cracked black pepper and a sprinkle of fresh herbs for a beautiful presentation, especially for nicer dinners or holidays.
