Discover the easiest way to cut an avocado with this quick and simple step-by-step guide, along with a short instructional video to show you how!
EQUIPMENT
- Sharp Knife
- Spoon
INGREDIENTS
- 1 ripe avocado
INSTRUCTIONS
Step 1 – Check for Ripeness:
Ensure the avocado is ripe by gently pressing on the skin. It should yield to slight pressure but not be too soft or mushy.
Step 2 – Cut in Half Lengthwise:
Slice the avocado lengthwise around the pit. Once cut, gently twist the halves to pull them apart. One half will contain the pit.
Step 3 – Remove the Pit:
If the avocado is ripe, the pit should come out easily with your fingers. If needed, you can carefully use a knife to remove the pit, but it’s not necessary and may cause injury if not done carefully.
Step 4 – For Chopped Avocado:
Hold one half of the avocado in the palm of your hand.
Using a paring knife, make crisscross cuts (cross-hatches) in the flesh, making sure not to cut through the skin.
Use a spoon to scoop out the chopped flesh.
Step 5 – For Sliced Avocado:
For slices, cut each avocado half lengthwise, cutting through the skin.
Hold each quarter in your hand and use a paring knife to slice through the flesh.
Peel the skin off the slices to reveal perfect, smooth avocado slices.
