This chicken recipe is incredible! You can easily substitute chicken drumsticks or breasts for the wings—each option will turn out just as delicious. Plus, since it’s made in the slow cooker, it couldn’t be easier!
INGREDIENTS
- 2-3 lbs chicken wings
- 1/2 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup honey
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp fresh ginger, grated (optional)
- 1 tbsp rice vinegar or apple cider vinegar
- 1 tbsp sesame oil
- 1/2 tsp crushed red pepper flakes (optional for heat)
- 1-2 tbsp cornstarch (for thickening, optional)
- Sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)
- Green onions (optional, for garnish)
INSTRUCTIONS
Prep the Wings: If desired, pat the chicken wings dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture. This will help them crisp up in the sauce later.
Make the Sauce: In a medium bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, honey, brown sugar, garlic, ginger (if using), vinegar, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes.
Slow Cooker: Place the chicken wings in the slow cooker. Pour the sauce over the wings, ensuring they are well-coated.
Cook: Cover and cook on low for 3-4 hours or high for 2-3 hours, until the chicken is fully cooked and tender.
Optional – Thicken the Sauce: If you prefer a thicker sauce, remove the wings from the slow cooker once they’re done. Transfer the sauce to a small saucepan and bring it to a simmer over medium heat. Whisk in cornstarch mixed with a little water, and simmer until the sauce thickens.
Serve:
- Once the sauce has thickened (if desired), return the wings to the slow cooker and toss them in the sauce to coat.
- Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions if desired.
- Enjoy: Serve your sticky chicken wings with rice, vegetables, or as an appetizer for your next gathering!
