Take your chocolate chip cookies to the next level by mixing in crunchy Oreo pieces! These extra-thick cookies are made using my favorite simple (and slightly unconventional) method for homemade cookies.
INGREDIENTS
- 3 ½ cups (420g) all-purpose flour, spooned and leveled
- 3 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup (2 sticks / 225g) unsalted butter, cubed (*see notes)
- ½ cup (100g) granulated sugar
- 1 cup (200g) packed brown sugar (light or dark)
- 1 large egg
- ¼ cup (60mL) milk
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 1 ¼ cups (215g / 7oz) chocolate chips or chunks
- 15 Oreos, roughly broken into pieces
INSTRUCTIONS
- Preheat and Prep: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two large baking sheets with parchment paper and set aside.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the flour, cornstarch, baking soda, and salt. Add the cubed butter and, using a fork, pastry cutter, or your hands, work it into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Ensure the butter is broken down to pea-sized pieces or smaller. Set aside.
- Prepare Wet Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar, brown sugar, egg, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Combine Wet and Dry: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry butter mixture. Stir until a thick cookie dough forms. If the dough feels too soft, add extra flour, one tablespoon at a time, until it’s firm enough to scoop.
- Fold in Add-Ins: Gently fold in the chocolate chips and broken Oreo pieces until evenly distributed throughout the dough.
- Portion and Shape: Using a large cookie scoop, portion out the dough onto the prepared baking sheets, leaving at least 2 inches between each ball. Lightly press down on each ball to help them spread evenly during baking.
- Bake and Cool: Bake in the center of the preheated oven for 12–18 minutes, or until the edges turn a light golden brown. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Enjoy your thick, Oreo-studded chocolate chip cookies!
