Struggling with greasy cabinets above the stove? Learn easy methods to remove grease and say goodbye to stubborn cooking residue on your cabinets!
How to Remove Grease From Cabinets
When using this method, I highly recommend starting by testing it on a small, hidden area of your cabinet, such as the inside of a door, where any potential damage won’t be noticeable.
My cabinets are very light-colored with a matte finish, and I didn’t notice any changes to the surface. However, if your cabinets have a glossy finish or an older finish, this method could potentially cause damage, so proceed with caution.
Ingredients You Need To Clean Cabinets
Banking Soda
Dish Soap (I prefer plain old blue Dawn)
Microfiber Cloth (I love this brand! I have had them for years and they work great!)
Getting Started
My cabinets are very light-colored with a matte finish, and I didn’t notice any changes to the surface. However, if your cabinets have a glossy finish or an older finish, this method could potentially cause damage, so proceed with caution.
To effectively remove grease from your cabinets above the stove (or anywhere else!), there are a few key steps you’ll want to follow.
- 1 Tablespoon of Banking Soda
- 1/2 Tablespoon
- 1/2 Tablespoon of Water
Step 1: Begin by adding 1/2 tablespoon of Dawn dish soap to a small bowl.
Step 2: Next, add 1 tablespoon of baking soda to the bowl.
Step 3: Add 1/2 tablespoon of water to the bowl and mix all the ingredients together until you form a paste.
Applying The Paste To Grease On Cabinets
Using a rag or microfiber cloth, apply a small amount of the paste to the cabinets. I love using these microfiber cloths for this task!
Gently rub the paste in a circular motion over the greasy spots on the cabinets. As soon as I started rubbing, I could feel the grease lifting away.
The microfiber cloth glided smoothly over the wood instead of getting snagged on the grease spots.
Cleaning Cabinets After Removing
Once all the spots are gone, use a warm cloth to wipe down the area you scrubbed.
Ensure you remove all of the baking soda mixture. After cleaning, dry the surface with a dry microfiber cloth or rag.
Continue working in small sections until all the grease spots are eliminated.
My cabinets look so much better after using this mixture to remove the grease! Plus, it only took a few minutes and didn’t damage the finish.
I also applied this mixture to the areas around the knobs on our cabinets, as I’ve noticed they tend to accumulate a lot of grease from our hands.

By using a simple mixture of dish soap, baking soda, and water, you can effectively tackle stubborn grease spots without damaging your cabinet’s finish.
